Our Core Values
Foundational Education
We believe children are the architects of their own educational journey. Our educators facilitate this process in an environment which inspires a curiosity for creativity, social-emotional actions, and growth, with curriculum and materials that support all areas of developmental learning.
Family Engagement and Support
We know that the education of our children begins at home. Family is a child’s first teacher. We partner with our families to ensure that they have the resources necessary to be successful at this endeavor. We also strive to connect our families with opportunities for social connection and enrichment through our family engagement program. Our goal is to build a bridge between home and school.
Community Involvement
Our program emphasizes the importance of connecting children to the community. We do this through collaborative and reciprocal opportunities, such as hosting partner programs and visiting local programs that teach about the natural environment and conservation. We also engage in local college and high school internships and take children on visits to college campuses. In addition, we encourage volunteerism and resource sharing to better serve our shared families.

About BCLC

How it all started
The preschool program opened in June of 1972 with the help of St. Peter’s Church, St. John’s Church, and the North Shore Community Program. Led by a Board of Directors composed of community members and parents, the school’s initial purpose was to provide a free preschool experience to children of low-income families in Beverly.
The school was first opened one morning a week and soon thereafter two mornings with a volunteer staff composed of the Director, a teacher, and parent aides. In1973, the school became incorporated as a private non-profit educational institution. With funding from the Office for Children, the school began operating five mornings, increased the number of children in the program, added transportation services and began hiring staff.
BCLC today
Today, BCLC has grown to serve up to 225 children per year in the North Shore and Cape Ann Communities. We provide education and care for children birth to age 13 years in our Infant, Toddler, Preschool, PreK, and Out-of-School-Time programs.
We are open Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 5pm in our Early Education Programs and until 6pm (5:30pm-summers) in our Out-of-School-Time Program, which follows the school year calendar, offering attendance full-time, early release hours, and after school accordingly. We have a large center-based site at 550 Cabot St. in Beverly, as well as several Family Child Care homes throughout these communities.
